What is HPDE?+
HPDE stands for High Performance Driver Education — an instructed track day designed to teach drivers how to safely explore their car's (and their own) limits on a closed road course. Every major track has HPDE events, typically run by SCCA regions, NASA, or independent organisations.
What do I need to bring to my first track day?+
A tech-inspected car (most orgs check brakes, tires, and belts), a Snell-rated helmet (many orgs rent them), long sleeves and pants, closed-toe shoes, and water. Most orgs have a novice group with dedicated instructors — you don't need any prior experience.
How much does a track day cost?+
Typical HPDE run days are $250–$500 per day depending on the venue and org. Some cars-and-coffee-style parade laps at local kart tracks are under $100. Full-day open lapping at bigger venues like COTA or Watkins Glen can hit $600+.
